Profile

Since gaining her Diploma of Higher Education in Deaf Studies from Bristol University in 1995, Penny has dedicated herself to improving communication between Deaf, Deafblind and hearing members of her local community.
Penny worked tirelessly to spread Deaf and Deafblind awareness across the South East and has partnered with local organisations such as hospitals, councils, hotels, childcare facilities to name a few. She has taught BSL formally for over 20 years, and in 2007 set up Sign for Thoughts Training Centre in Farnborough to deliver BSL courses. SFT delivers courses from beginners - BSL Level 1, right through to Level 6 and in more recent years, Deafblind awareness and Deafblind training to train people to be Deafblind guides and/or Deafblind support workers. She sees this as a huge privilege to impart her knowledge and experience as someone with Usher.
Her passion for BSL and Deafblind awareness and training through great communication is contagious! She provides a great support for her students as they follow their BSL journeys and she is always available on Skype for advice, 1:1 tutorials and support.
Penny is also a qualified NVQ assessor.
