iBSL Level 1 Award in Deafblind Awareness

Introduction

We are delighted to be delivering the iBSL Level 1 Award in Deafblind Awareness Course at Sign for Thoughts. Next course date Thursday 24th September 2020

With around 330,475 Deafblind people in the UK, we need to spread awareness and improve communication and access for all.

You will be in great hands with our very experienced teachers Sarah Reed and Penny Gunn teaching you a basic-level knowledge and understanding about Deafblind awareness, and what it means to be deafblind and what can be done to improve access in society for this group of people.

The great news is that as the course is delivered in BSL as well as English, it is ACCESSIBLE FOR DEAF AND HEARING STUDENTS.

This qualification introduces the learner to a basic level knowledge and understanding about Deafblind awareness, and what it means to Deafblind.

The Level 1 Award in Deafblind Awareness is suitable for anyone and especially those who:

  • wish to acquire a basic understanding and awareness of Deafblind Issues and Deafblind people;
  • need to acquire the knowledge as part of a programme of study or professional development;
  • are studying for personal development with a view to future employment.e Deafblind and what can be done to improve access in society for this group of people.

Qualification Structure

No previous experience of deafblindness is required for entry into a programme leading to the Level 1
Award in Deafblind Awareness.

The qualification consists of just one stand-alone unit of the same title. The assessment for the qualification will be a 30-minute written assessment consisting of multi-choice questions.

The pass mark for the assessment is 67% overall.

Qualification Objectives

Your teacher will take you through the course objectives and at the end of the session you will be assessed by a written Q&A paper set by IBSL (which includes 30 minutes of preparation time beforehand and a 30 minute written assessment paper)

At the end of the qualification, learners will be able to:

  • Know the different types of Deafblind people.
  • Identify common causes of Deafblindness.
  • Know the numbers and types of Deafblind people in Britain
  • Identify unnecessary barriers for Deafblind people which have a hearing focus.
  • Understand different modes of communication for Deafblind people.
  • Understand different modes of reading for Deafblind people.
  • The range of equipment and technology available to Deafblind people.
