What is a Deaf Awareness course?
Deaf awareness courses are provided to workplaces and businesses with the aim of improving communication and promoting inclusivity in the workplace.

Sign for Thoughts will come to you! Please note that if you are located further than 20 miles from SfT, there will be an extra charge for travel. Alternatively we can accommodate the courses at the Sign for Thoughts centre, subject to availability.

We offer three types of Deaf Awareness courses. If you've already done one of our courses, we can return again with a 'Tier 2' course tailored to what you have already learned.We tailor all our courses to your workplace, so wherever you're based and whatever your business is, we can help you understand why being Deaf aware is so important.
All courses include free handouts, the half day and full day courses include video resources from Sign for Thoughts.
2 hour course
Minimum participants: 8
Maximum participants: 20
Content: The aims of the two hour course are...
- The different types of deafness
- Improving communication with deaf people
- A brief cover on how to make your workplace deaf-friendly.

Please note that if you would like your course to contain BSL, we recommend doing a half day or full day course. We tailor our courses to each workplace, and we really want the people we visit to fully comprehend the information we deliver.
Half Day course
Minimum participants: 8
Maximum participants: 15
Content: The aims of the half day course are...
- To give participants an understanding of the number of Deaf people across the UK
- The different types of deafness
- A basic understanding of Deaf culture and communication
- Learning some basic BSL
- Improving communication and starting to understand how to adapt your workplace

Full Day course
Minimum participants: 8
Maximum participants: 15
Content: The aims of the full day course are...
- To give participants an understanding of the number of Deaf people across the UK
- A basic understanding of Deaf culture
- To start to have a personal understanding of how being deaf inclusive and aware can impact the deaf community
- Learning some basic BSL and how to use these in the workplace
- Improving communication and understanding how to adapt your workplace, considering what barriers can be broken down to become more inclusive
